這是一個朋友轉寄來的，我把它翻成中文。許多保守人士或教會人士提出的理由，乍聽之下似乎挺有道理，但是仔細一想，都是一廂情願的爛理由！(原文寫於 2005-03-01 )



圖片是去年在加州結婚的一對夫夫，他們手上的是汽車保險單。其實合法婚姻權不只是為了展現愛情的深度，對於生活上，更是一種應得的平等，一種應得的權益，以及一種應得的方便。像最近是報稅季節，許多單身的人就會覺得稅法是在懲罰單身，因為要繳納的稅款比較多；但是有很多的同志並不是單身呀！！他們之間的關係都到了跟一般夫妻一樣的程度，法律上卻沒有保障。不管是稅、保險等等，到探病權、手術時簽字的權利，都被剝奪。

去年因為布希當選之後，引起許多保守州志得意滿的想將所有平等與反歧視法律，還有男女同志們都趕盡殺絕的風潮；修憲、立法禁同性婚姻，甚至禁同志結合權，還有禁止公司提供同性戀雇員福利，新聞一天到晚都是看到『某州隸屬某某教會的某某某提出申請書，要求立法禁止╳╳同性戀權益』的新聞，到最近病的不輕的教宗，也在他的書裡面說同性合法婚姻是『假借民主制度而實施的邪惡』。（天曉得把他救活的醫生，是不是同性戀，或是擁有同性戀的親友）這樣的風潮，的確教人憂心與沮喪。其實前幾天我看到報紙上說『教宗重病住院，口不能言』，我的第一個反應居然是『省的他妖言惑眾』！

不曉得這樣想是不是會被人罵說我要下地獄，但是讓這樣的歪風繼續下去，不必等到往生，男女同志們還活著，就已經是人間煉獄啦！前幾天一個同志平權網站寄信來希望大家連署，支持同性婚姻合法化，我簽了名，並且加上一句『True God would Approve True Love』！


12 reasons why gay people should not be allowed to get married
十二項同性戀不該合法結婚的理由

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.
1. 同性戀是不自然的，就像眼鏡、塑膠、跟避孕一樣。

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can’t legally get married because the world needs more children.
2. 異性婚姻可以合法是因為那可以生產出小孩。不孕症夫妻跟年老夫妻都不可以合法結婚，因為這個世界需要更多的小孩。

3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
3. 很明顯的，同性戀父母一定會教出同性戀的小孩，就像異性戀的父母只會帶出異性戀的小孩一樣。

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.
4 異性婚姻將會因為同性婚姻合法了而使婚姻失去意義；儘管布蘭妮的五十五小時、純粹只是好玩的婚姻真是超有意義。

5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are property, blacks can’t marry whites, and divorce is illegal.
5. 異性戀婚姻制度由來已久，並且沒有變動過；所以如今女人是附屬財產，黑白不能通婚，離婚也是非法的囉？（這些都是歷史上的婚姻變革）

6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.
6. 同性婚姻應該由人民決定，而不是法院，因為是優勢團體選出的民意代表在保護弱勢族群的權益，而非法院。

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in America.
7. 同性婚姻為宗教所禁止。在這樣的神權政治下，宗教的價值被強加在全體國民頭上。這就是為什麼在美國只有一種宗教（基督教）。

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
8. 同性婚姻將會鼓勵人們變成同性戀，同理可證，常常跟高的人在一起，你就會長高。

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
9. 讓同性婚姻合法，將會廣開各種瘋狂行為的大門。人們將會要跟他們的寵物結婚，因為狗有法律上的人權，並且可以簽署結婚證書。

10. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why single parents are forbidden to raise children.
10. 沒有一個父親跟一個母親作為榜樣的小孩，將會成為失敗的人。這就是為什麼單親家庭被禁止撫養小孩的緣故。

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven’t adapted to things like cars or a longer lifespan.
11. 同性婚姻將會動搖社會的基礎。異性婚姻已經由來已久，我們無法接受一種新的社會準則，因為我們都無法接受像車子或是更長的人類壽命等新的事物。

12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will.
12. 同性合法結合，提供跟合法婚姻相同的權益但是不同的名稱是比較好的作法，因為『隔離但平等』的政策非常的合憲。隔離黑人與白人的學校政策，就跟對於男同志與女同志實施的隔離婚姻政策一樣，可以實行的十分完善。
